The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much, James 5:16b.
1. Pray for your enemies.

2. Pray in secret.
Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
3. Pray without vain repetitions.
Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
4. Pray the Lord’s Prayer.
Luke 11:2-4 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. - Matthew 6:9-13.
5. Pray for “laborers in the harvest,” Christians who will do God’s work in the world to bring others to Christ.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. - Matthew 9:38.
6. Pray for children.
Matthew 19:13-14 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
7. Pray that you will not give in to temptation.
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. - Mark 14:38, Luke 22:40.
8. Pray for the godly desires of your heart.
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
9. Pray for the Second Coming of Christ.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
10. Pray even when it is difficult.
Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.
11. Pray to forgive and for forgiveness.
Mark 11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Acts 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
12. Pray as you are prompted and led by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

13. Pray continually, and don’t give up.
I Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
14. Pray that God will help you to resist sin.

15. Pray for
other believers that their faith be perfected.

16. Pray that you will be strengthened to fulfill the
Lord’s will.
II Thessalonians 1:11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.
17. Pray that the Word of God have free course and be glorified.
II Thessalonians 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you.
18. Pray everywhere in love and faith.

19. Pray to have
a good conscience through honest living.
Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
20. Pray for the afflicted and sick.
James 5:13-14 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Prayer Thought: Henry Balckaby has said, “The reason that churches do not pray is because it has been a long time since they have tried to do something impossible.”
