Why Awana?

The goal of Awana is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. Thus, the purpose of Awana is twofold:

Evangelism - to draw boys and girls from the community into the club ministry where they may hear the Gospel and accept Christ as Savior.

Training - to prepare clubbers to help fulfill the Great Commission through outreach, service to their church and development of leadership qualities.

Awana strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding Scripture. Psalm 119:11 says, Thy Word (the Bible) have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.  Through Bible memorization and other Bible-based achievement, clubbers learn the Word of God which helps them develop their relationship with Jesus Christ.  Clubbers often discover later in life that verses they learned in Awana are valuable in helping them live Christ-honoring lives.

CUBBIES:  The two years prior to Kindergarten.

Cubbies is for boys and girls ages three thru five (not in Kindergarten).  It is a structured program where the kids learn early that being a Christian and learning verses can be fun.  They learn very simple verses with the help of Mom and Dad at home, sing songs, play games, learn to function in a group environment, hear Bible stories, and earn awards: animal patches for their vest and stickers for their handbook.  No review is required to finish the handbook.
At this time the Cubbie program at Faith Community Church is only open to the children of Awana staff members.

Sparks moves the children through a disciplined walk with the Lord by providing Bible verses which re-enforce basic doctrine, provides activities, and helps the kids understand basic issues of honesty, manners, etc.  The uniform is a red vest.  Sparks get a crown for each book they do (Skipper, Hiker, and Climber).  The awards are jewels which fit in the crown.  You will be amazed to see how fast your children work to fill their crowns!  If a clubber finishes his/her book and has done the review, then there is a workbook they may also work through.

Junior Varsity is for young men and women who wish a disciplined Bible study and discussion with others their same age.  The program is designed to address major issues in the lives of young people and provide application to their daily lives.  Crafts consist of the sorts of thing all JV students would be involved in anyway: sports, community service, missionary work, auto basics, etc.  For fun, the group gets together outside of AWANA for parties and outings where they can bring friends and enjoy positive Christian fellowship with their peers.

VARSITY:  Grades 9-12.
LifeLine - outreach to other teens
Pathway - personal devotions
AKX - advanced Bible study materials for discipleship

The Varsity Club concludes the Awana program for High School students.  As you might expect, the materials the teens study are more challenging and rewarding.  Discipleship - becoming like Jesus Christ - is the foundation of the program.  Our Varsity Club meets on Sunday morning for study of the AKX manual - a guide for growing, maturing Christian youth.  They serve as LIT's (Leaders In Training) with our younger clubs on Wednesday evening, and meet again on Sunday evening for fun, fellowship, worship and discussion of contemporary issues of concern for Christian teens.
